Evening view

A storm rushed through providing some dramatic clouds and a colorful early evening view as the sun set in the neighborhood.  The nice light lasted only a few minutes as the sun was already below the horizon.

Change of season

Spring has arrived and so have flocks of birds to the backyard feeders.  Today I had Northern Cardinals,  American Goldfinch, Dark-eyed Juncos, Black-capped Chickadees, Brown-headed Cowbirds, Starlings, White-breasted Nuthatches, Tufted Titmouse, Mourning Doves, Downy Woodpeckers and American Crows all grabbing seed from my feeders with a few American Robins stopping by for some ground feeding.  More images from today are at...

Learning weekend

A snowstorm last Monday and six days later, 80 degree temps….  the weather was great for this weekend’s Meadowlark Nature Photography Expo in Vienna, VA.  On Friday, I attended the presentation by keynote speaker, Bruce Dale.  Bruce has had over 2,000 pictures published in National Geographic and about as many stories to tell. As predicted

  Mother Nature didn’t disappoint the snow-lovers in the area as a storm produced a large amount of snow, as predicted by the weather forecasters.  The snowfall, however, couldn’t hide the small buds on the trees that are marking the end of winter.

Before the storm

 A prequel this morning to the arrival of the largest snowfall this area has seen in a couple of years has sent the neighborhood birds and squirrels into a serious search for food as evidenced by the numerous tracks in my yard.  The weather forecasters here are predicting a sizeable snowfall along the east coast from this...
